Pom Pom The Clown
Magic!

Q. What kind of magic do you do at parties?
A. I call it Clown Comedy Magic. Nothing too dazzling. Pretty darn silly sometimes. I always let the kid have the star role in the producing of the rabbit or whatever the effect is.

Q. How do you do that?
A. What I do is I pretend that I've done my best to make the trick happen and I just can't do it. I'll say," I'll need a helper, Let me describe this helper to you. I'll need a helper that is 5 years old, I'll need a helper named Jimmy, I'll need a helper with some big hairy toes! " ( I've just described the birthday child right down to the big hairy toes.) Jimmy will then come up to stand beside me as I explain what he is to do. I'll say:" First of all you will need a helper hat. (I don't always do this)." Now get out your magic wand...I tell them then I wait as they explain they do not have such a thing as a magic wand, Oh ok you can borrow mine." I reach into my bag and pull out...a baby bottle,( or something else just as silly) and hand it to the child without looking at them. Laughter erupts and I'll notice the kid is holding the bottle. Point out that that's not a magic wand, that's a baby ba ba! Of course everyone else already knew that. Take the bottle, or whatever) back and replace it with a magic wand.
***note***There are several comedy magic wands available for purchase. You can also just use a standard wand.

Q.What about the magic?
A. The magic comes when the child is all set with his hat and wand and a few magic words, which the rest of the party guests will supply. I'll ask," What are the magic words?" They will usually reply, " Abracadabra!" I'll repeat, "Abracagrandma". They will shout again, "Abracadabra!" I'll repeat,"Abracadada? They'll shout again, or the birthday child will try and tell me. Finally I'll repeat it correctly, the birthday child will wave the wand and the correct magic will be accomplished.

***note*** Sometimes different words are shouted out to use as the magic words. Sometimes I play off them sometimes not. It depends if the time is getting long. Have funny mispronunciations for any magic word they might suggest.

Q. The magic? What exactly do you have the kid do?
A. You're a persistent little monkey aren't you? O.K. the magic. One thing I do, and it all depends on the ages of the children at the party and the birthday child, also whether or not I was just at this kid's party the year before. I vary the things I do at the parties. But at a 4 or 5 year olds party I might do the wilted flower. That is the feather flower that wilts at your secret command and then springs back up at the wave of the magic wand. I won't go into detail here on just what the routine is for doing that. But you can order my Tips and Tricks For Clowns At Birthday Parties to find out some of my favorite routines. At a birthday party for a 7-8 year old I might do the "Abracadabra Supercaduper Transfer Zapper" Transferring an object from one place to another. At a repeat party I'll take my rabbit producing box and the birthday child will produce the rabbit after I tried and couldn't do it.
