Pom Pom The Clown
Birthday Party

Amy and Pom Pom at a party a loooooong time ago...How long?
(Amy is in high school now)

Q. What do you do at a birthday party?
A. I do a mix of "Creative Clown Comedy", balloon animals/hats, and face
painting. Or if there are too many children for face painting, then I substitute
games and other activities.

Q. What is "Creative Clown Comedy"?
A. Creative Clown Comedy is where I get to know the kids, and they get to know
me, Pom Pom, and hopefully getting them laughing and having a good time.

Q. How do you get the kids laughing?
A. I might say to a girl sitting next to a boy, "Oh I see you're here with your
husband! That's good he's not a couch potato!" Or I might say to a boy, while
patting his head, "Is that a wig, or your real hair?" This is all done as you
are meeting the kids, finding out their names, ages, etc. With real young kids
this doesn't work, (3 and under). But the older than that crowd just eats it up!

***note*** A lot of what I do and say to the kids is improvised. I have a few
things that are repeated from party to party as they can really be counted on to
elicit giggles from the kids and adults alike. I like to find the kids with a
cute or unique personality and play off them. NEVER forgetting the birthday
child however!

Q. How do the kids get to know you?
A.I always tell the kids that I have a prize for them if they remember my name.
I then tell them my name and have them repeat it. Here's how it goes...I
say:"It's Pom Pom the Clown". Then I'll listen as they repeat, "Pom Pom the
Clown". I claim that I heard somebody say" Ding Dong the Clown" and act
as though I know who it is by pointing to one of the kids. They'll swear they
said it right, (and they did), so I'll say" O.K. I want everybody to get the
prize so lets try it again." They try again and I say I heard someone say, "Hot
Dog the Clown". Etc. etc. Finally I say everyone got it right and before I leave
I'll give them a surprise. (A candy treat) Make sure you have plenty for
everyone.

Q. Do you do any thing else?
A. Yes I do. At this point I begin a little magic or comedy routine in which the
birthday child is the star, (if they're willing).

Q. What do you do with balloons?
A. Go to the Balloon Page for information on balloons at birthday parties.
